- Start indoors in spring or late summer for outdoor growing, or year-round in controlled environments.

- Germination time: About 3 days under optimal conditions.

- Temperature: Maintain 18 °C (64 °F), high humidity, and no light needed for germination.

- Soil: Use a fine, well-drained sowing mix with pH 5.8–6.5, EC around 1.5.

- Covering: Apply a thin layer of vermiculite or light soil (4–8 mm).

- Fertilisation in plug stage: Light feeding with low nitrogen (1.5 EC) at each watering.

Thin

- Not required if sowing directly into plugs. Aim for strong single seedlings.

Plant Out / Transplant

- Transplant when plants have 2 large true leaves and a visible central sprout.

- Roots should fully cover the plug.

- Use 8–12 cm (3–5″) pots, one plant per pot.

Exposure

- Full sun to partial sun. Avoid constant deep shade.

- Indoors: place in bright light but avoid direct scorching sun.

Temperature

- Ideal range: 18–24 °C (64–75 °F).

- Minimum: 8 °C (46 °F); growth slows below this.

- Optimal day/night: 20 °C / 14 °C.

- Tolerant to temporary high temperatures without yield loss.

Support

- Compact habit does not require staking or support.

Pruning

- Not needed; allow natural growth.

- Remove yellowed outer leaves if necessary.

Water

- Keep soil evenly moist at all times.

- Avoid wilting—plants that go limp may trigger premature curd formation.

- Water with a nutrient solution at 1.5 EC.

Feed

- Use balanced fertilizer with low nitrogen to prevent excessive leaf growth.

- Maintain steady nutrition for continuous development.

Protect

- Monitor for pests: cabbage fly, swede midge, aphids, and caterpillars.

- Use preventive measures such as insect netting or safe sprays.

- Keep plants healthy to avoid premature curd formation.

- Time to harvest: About 24–30 days after transplant (4 weeks) depending on temperature.

- Harvest when compact white curds form, about 5–7 cm across.

- Leaves are also edible—tender, mild, and suitable for cooking or fresh use.

- Shelf life: up to 10–14 days after harvest, or 10 days as a potted plant if watered regularly.

- Flavor: sweet, never bitter even under sun exposure.
