Native to the Mediterranean areas and the Middle East, celery was used as a flavoring by the ancient Greeks and Romans and as a medicine by the ancient Chinese. Celery needs a long, relatively cool growing season to grow. It is considered a hardy biennial, but it’s typically grown as an annual. Although celery has a reputation for being fussy to grow at home, with the right climate and some care you can grow large, tender plants.
